Institutional Recognition

In December 2023, Stevens Institute of Technology was once again recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education as a STARS Gold Institution based on its reported accomplishments in campus sustainability.

Stevens Institute of Technology ranks among the best universities in the United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual list of college rankings released in September 2023. The publication ranks Stevens No. 76 overall and No. 63 in “Best Value Schools” among 439 national research universities.

In August 2023, President Nariman Farvardin received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2023 Chief Executive HR Champion Award. This award honors a president or chancellor of a higher education institution who has demonstrated significant support for their institution’s human resources function.

In January 2023, Stevens Institute of Technology received Great Place to Work Certification®. The prestigious award is based entirely on what current employees say about their experience working at Stevens. In 2023, 75% of employees said Stevens is a great place to work — 18 points higher than the average U.S. company.

In March 2022, Stevens received the prestigious Healthy Campus Award in recognition of its commitment to the physical and mental health of its students and as "one of the healthiest college campuses in the nation."

In November 2021, Stevens was honored by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge with its gold seal which recognizes select higher education institutions, educators, and students for their extraordinary work in student voter engagement during the 2020 presidential election. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and most students learning virtually, Stevens ensured students could cast their ballots.

President Nariman Farvardin was named to the NJBIZ Education Power 50 list in recognition of the incredible growth and upward trajectory the university has experienced under his leadership. Additionally, Stevens School of Business faculty, George Calhoun and Steve Yang, were recognized in the NJBIZ Education Power 50 list. Professors Calhoun and Yang are leaders of the new NSF-funded Center for Research toward Advancing Financial Technologies (CRAFT).

In June 2021, Stevens received the USGBC Leadership Award for the Middle Atlantic & New England region. This award recognizes the exemplary leadership of individuals and organizations contributing to the creation of sustainable, healthier, equitable and resilient buildings, cities, and communities. Stevens was honored with this award for the exceptional sustainable design features of the LEED Gold Gateway Academic Center.

In August 2020, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) recognized the achievements of Stevens Institute of Technology’s ACES (Accessing Careers in Engineering and Science) program with its Diversity and Inclusion Award. The award is given to an organization that encourages and rewards diversity and inclusion initiatives, and implements programs that remove barriers and improve the climate, culture, experience and engagement levels for minority groups.

In May 2020, Stevens achieved a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), showcasing Stevens’ strong dedication to sustainability in both the classroom and campus operations.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, an American flag was flown over the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1870 founding of America’s first college of mechanical engineering — Stevens Institute of Technology. A number of other acts of recognition from federal, state and local officials followed throughout the first week of the university’s sesquicentennial celebrations.

The New Jersey Tech Council recognized the Stevens ACES (Accessing Careers in Engineering and Science) program, created by Stevens Institute of Technology President Nariman Farvardin, with its 2019 Innovation in Education Award.

President Nariman Farvardin accepted the American Council on Education (ACE)/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation on behalf of Stevens at ACE’s 100th annual meeting on March 11, 2018. The award was created to recognize institutions that have responded to higher education challenges in innovative and creative ways and achieved dramatic changes in a relatively brief period.

In September 2017, Forbes highlighted Stevens’ remarkable turnaround under President Nariman Farvardin’s leadership. The article underscores the university’s unique technology-focused curriculum and high-demand majors that produce competitive graduates and impressive post-graduation placement rates.

In September 2017, the Carnegie Corporation of New York selected President Nariman Farvardin to receive their Academic Leadership Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership in higher education.

Stevens won first place in 2015 in the highly competitive U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition for its SU+RE (Sustainable+Resilient) House, a net-zero energy house inspired by New Jersey’s challenges during Hurricane Sandy.
