A Sustainable Summer of Research
Each summer, undergraduate scholars at the Stevens Center for Sustainability, with support from the PSEG Foundation, collaborate with faculty mentors on interdisciplinary research projects. Through a 10-week immersive research experience, students engage in critical environmental challenges, from energy and resource sustainability to social and economic resilience. Working closely with faculty, scholars contribute to innovative solutions that advance sustainability in New Jersey and beyond, fostering a growing community of researchers committed to shaping a more sustainable and resilient future.
Empowering the Next Generation
This summer, the Stevens Center for Sustainability (SCS) proudly partnered with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s (NJDEP) award-winning Youth Inclusion Initiative (YII) as a Community Host Organization. YII empowers youth from overburdened communities across New Jersey by providing hands-on experiences in environmental careers and immersing them in the state’s diverse ecosystems. Believed to be the only state-led initiative of its kind in the nation, YII is a pioneering model for building a more diverse and equitable environmental workforce.

Dibs Sarkar
Director, Stevens Center for Sustainability
Dibyendu "Dibs" Sarkar is a professor of environmental engineering at Stevens Institute Technology and founding director of the Sustainability Management graduate program in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering.
Vaishali Kushwaha
Program Manager, Stevens Center for Sustainability
Dr. Vaishali Kushwaha is an educator, scholar, and sustainability practitioner with over 15 years of experience advancing environmental sustainability and urban resilience across Singapore, India, and the US. She holds a Ph.D. in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University, an M.P.A. from the National University of Singapore, and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University.
