Learn first-hand what it means to be a scientist or an engineer!

In Stevens' ECOES (Exploring Career Options in Engineering and Science) Program, you'll live on our campus for two weeks this summer and participate in hands-on research competitions, site visits to major companies, and enjoy the sites of the greatest city in the world, New York City! The ECOES program dates are as follows:

Session 1- Sunday, July 11th- Friday, July 23rd

Session 2- Sunday, July 25th- Friday, August 6th



Applying

Eligibility, deadlines, and registration:

If you are currently in your sophomore or junior year of high school, and have a demonstrated ability in math and science, we encourage you to apply to the ECOES program. Students will be evaluated on the information provided in the application including: high school transcript; and a letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher.

Due to the size of the program, priority will be given to current high school juniors.

The registration fee is $1,500 for the two-week program, which covers tuition, room and board. Students are required to remit the program fee by the beginning of the session they plan to attend.

Program Highlights

Experience dynamic, hands-on laboratory projects

Be a part of a team and work on an engineering design or science project. Past projects have included:

        *LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Competition

        *Bioluminescence (Chemical Biology)

        *LEGO Mindstorm Underwater Remote Operating Vehicle   

Visit local Fortune 500 companies and get and an inside view of how scientists and engineers work. Past field visits have included Schering-Plough, New Jersey Transit, UPS, Becton Dickinson, and The Meadowlands. Meet professional scientists and engineers, as well as Stevens students, who will share their experiences with you.
Make new friends and get a taste of college life!               

Activities

The program centers around an engineering design project and your work in the labs. You will work with members of our world-renowned faculty to explore a number of different areas, including:
    * Chemical Engineering

    * Biomedical Science

    * Electrical Engineering

    * Naval Engineering

    * Physics (Optics)

    * Computer Science

    * Civil Engineering

    * Environmental Engineering

    * Mechanical Engineering

    * Robotics

    * Music and Technology

    * Nanotechnology

    * Chemical Biology

Our hands-on lab experiences will offer you new insights to these disciplines and help you sharpen your leadership skills. You will also find plenty of social activities planned. Some of the places we have visited in past years include Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Museum of Natural History, and Yankee Stadium.

Housing and Meals

Students share a double room with another student in Davis Hall, an air-conditioned residence hall.  Students are supervised by counselors and Resident Assistants. Breakfast is served in the Pierce Dining Hall in our Howe Center. Lunch and dinner options include our on-campus dining facilities, as well as numerous restaurants in Hoboken (pdf, 82KB).

Facilities and Recreation

All projects and exploration labs are held in our state of the art laboratory facilities in the engineering and science buildings. Enjoy sports and recreation in the Schaefer Athletic and Recreation Center, complete with an NCAA competition sized pool, as well as indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, squash and racquetball courts. Outdoor facilities include sand volleyball courts and six outdoor tennis courts. An athletic coordinator will organize activities based on your interests.

Transportation

Students are responsible for transportation to and from Stevens. For students traveling by air, transportation will be provided from Newark/Liberty International Airport to Stevens at no additional charge.

Established in 1870, Stevens offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in engineering, the sciences, computer science, technology management and business, as well as a bachelor's degree in humanities and liberal arts. Located in the vibrant city of Hoboken, NJ, on the Hudson River across from midtown Manhattan, the Stevens campus offers this exciting summer program in a park like setting with a safe campus environment.
