Registration Policies, Procedures and Instructions

Hard copy enrollment forms will still be accepted, although we strongly encourage you to register online. Please observe the following procedures:

• Create a conflict-free schedule
• List the courses you want or need in order of importance, from most to least critical
• List your sections in order of preference: e.g. MA221 B,A on the same line if you prefer section B to section A
• Please list 3 choices for Humanities electives in the same way (most to least preferred; undergraduates only)
• Have your advisor sign your enrollment form before submitting it to the Student Service Center (undergraduates and graduate Construction Management majors)

We will section you first for the course or section you list as most important, and we will continue to section you as closely to your requests as possible. Because your curriculum is so prescribed, we will try every possible combination to enroll you into the courses you have requested. This means you might not be enrolled in the specific section you requested, but you will have as complete a schedule as possible.

Undergraduate Study Plans and Withdrawals:

Engineering undergraduates are required to submit an approved Study Plan, appropriate for their area of concentration, before the end of the third semester.

Science or Computer Science undergraduates are required to submit an approved Study Plan, appropriate for their area of concentration, before the end of the second semester of enrollment.

Undergraduates on the Reduced Load Plan have one additional semester to submit an approved Study Plan.

Transfer Engineering students are required to submit an approved Study Plan Form the semester before enrolling in your first technical elective.

All other transfer students are required to submit their Study Plan with the enrollment form for your second semester at Stevens.

Students enrolled in the contractual Five-Year reduced load ("decelerated degree") programs should note that the financial concessions in the fifth year are contingent on enrollments in fewer than the standard program in each semester. Questions should be directed to Dean Russ or Dean Cesmebasi .

If you do not plan to return to Stevens, please notify Dean Russ or Dean Cesmebasi in person. You must clear all of your financial obligations to Stevens (including any outstanding computer charges) to avoid further charges or referral to a collection agency.

Graduate Study Plans:

You must submit an approved study plan in your first semester.

Students with significant unpaid balances on their account or outstanding immunization records will not be permitted to register. This policy is for all forms of registration, electronic and hard copy. Hard copy enrollment forms will not be processed for students on hold. Student Financial Services will inform all students placed on hold of their status in advance of the registration period in addition to normal monthly billing.

Core Freshmen courses have time during which quizzes for Calculus, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry courses are given outside of the normally scheduled class time. These times appear as the course D110 on the enrollment. The Registrar's Office and the Faculty set aside time slots for these quizzes, and freshmen should not be enrolled in any course or section that overlaps with these times. The times are Tuesday 2:00 to 3:00, Thursday 2:00 to 3:00 and Friday 1:00 to 1:30. Do not attempt to register for any courses that conflict with that meeting schedule, and do not attempt to drop these course numbers from your schedule, the Registrar's Office will re-enroll you.

For many courses, lectures, recitations and labs are listed separately to allow for flexibility in scheduling. Please make sure you enroll for the appropriate combination, i.e., the lab or recitation that is a co-requisite for the lecture.

Enrollment in conflicting courses requires the permission of one instructor with a Change of Enrollment Form. You must get the instructor's signed approval to add a course that is closed.

Undergraduates:

Students who are not on academic probation or reduced load (whether mandatory or voluntary) may be eligible to enroll in courses beyond the standard program without additional tuition charges. The Dean of Undergraduate Academics' policy on extra courses can be found here. Issues, disputes and questions regarding overloads must be resolved prior to enrollment, not after billing.

Undergraduates wishing to enroll in any graduate Management course or any 600 or higher level Engineering or Science course must get permission from the instructor and the Graduate Studies Office on the Undergraduate Permission to Take Graduate Courses form and submit it to the Student Service Center.

Beginning with the Spring 2003 semester, the graduate course schedule will be made available concurrently with the undergraduate schedule. Undergraduates eligible to enroll in graduate courses may do so along with their undergraduate courses.

Full-time undergraduate study is defined as 12 credits per term.

Full-time graduate study is defined as 9 credits per term.

Such status is required for most forms of financial aid and for international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. However, undergraduates students not enrolled in a five-year plan will be billed for a reduced tuition charge if taking fewer than 12 credits; reduced tuition charges could have an impact on financial aid eligibility. Questions regarding such impact should be directed to the Student Service Center.

On-Line Adds and Drops (or paper Change of Enrollment Forms) will be permitted/processed through the end of the Add/Drop period with no fees assessed. After that date, Add/Drops are not permitted via the Web for Students and a Late Change of Enrollment fee will be assessed for each Change of Enrollment Form you submit, except withdrawals (resulting in a grade of W). REMINDER: if you have a financial hold, no Change of Enrollment Forms will be processed unless you have signed permission from Student Financial Services. If not resolved by the end of the Add/Drop period, Student Financial Services will assess the Late Change of Enrollment Fee.

After end of the Add/Drop period, withdrawals are permitted, but drops are not. If you withdraw from a course, a grade of "W" will be recorded on your academic record and will be counted as part of your regular course load for all billing purposes, including overloads. After end of the Add/Drop period and before the Last Day to Withdraw without Signatures, you must have your instructor's approval to add a course. After the Last Day to Withdraw without Signatures, any registration change, including withdrawals, must be approved and signed by the instructor, your advisor (Graduate Students), and The Dean of Undergraduate Academic (Undergraduates) or The Dean of Graduate Studies (Graduate Students).
