Credit for College-Level Courses
If you took college level courses while you were in high school, Stevens will review the courses for transfer credit. If the courses meet the following criteria, they will be reviewed by the appropriate academic department to determine whether or not credit will be awarded.
For college courses taken at the college campus:
A grade of C or better must be achieved in the course.
A course syllabus must be provided prior to the evaluation.
An official college transcript with the course listed and grade achieved must also be provided.
The course must be approved for transfer by the appropriate Stevens academic department.
For courses taken at the high school for which a college is giving credit:
A grade of C or better in the course is required.
A course syllabus and an official college transcript with the course listed and grade achieved must be provided.
The course must be approved for transfer by the appropriate Stevens academic department.
How to submit a course for credit evaluation:
Enrolled first-year students are granted access to Workday Student and through this system will be able to submit all college-level courses for which they request to be evaluated for credit by Stevens. In order to have previous college coursework evaluated for credit, students must have the following prepared to submit:
Official college transcript(s) for all courses to be evaluated for credit
Syllabus for each course to be evaluated for credit
Once an enrolled first-year student is given access to Workday Student and completes the onboarding process, the instructions to request a credit evaluation are as follows:
For all courses, Go to Workday Student and select Requests in the applications section on your homepage.
Complete the Application for Transfer Credit request with information about the course you would like to transfer to Stevens Institute of Technology (a separate request must be submitted for each individual course). Information on submitting the application for transfer credit can be found here
Please attach the course syllabus to the request. A syllabus is an academic document with the following elements: course title, course number, credits, location, time, textbook, and an outline of course subjects. The syllabus should also defines expectations and responsibilities for coursework covered. Course descriptions from academic catalogs are unacceptable and will not be evaluated.
Students must send an official copy of their college transcript listing the courses they have requested to have evaluated for credit and the grade they received in each class to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
The request for each course will be processed by the Office of Undergraduate Academics and evaluated by the academic department, if necessary. All approved requests are then sent to the Office of the Registrar.
The Office of the Registrar will check approvals and process the request for transfer credits once the official transcript is received to award transfer credits.
Information on how to check the status of your transfer credit requests that have been submitted can be found here.
For a timely review, all materials and Application for Transfer Credit requests should be submitted by June 30.
Your official college transcript(s) should be sent via email or mail to the attention of:
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Stevens Institute of Technology
1 Castle Point on Hudson
Hoboken, NJ 07030
e: [email protected]
For in-progress courses, please submit your official college transcript with the course listed and final grade no later than July 8th, to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
If you have any questions about credit transfers, email [email protected]
More Information
*Please do not enter AP or IB courses into the Application for Transfer Credit through Workday Student. AP exam scores are provided by the College Board and IB exam scores are provided by the IB Program separately and you must request for this information to be sent officially to Stevens.
If you are enrolled in an AP course where you have the choice to receive dual enrollment credit from a college or university without completing the AP exam, Stevens Institute of Technology will need additional documentation regarding the relationship between your AP course and the dual enrollment credit. Please contact: [email protected] to discuss your specific situation.
**Stevens does not partner with Project Lead the Way. Therefore, we do not evaluate PLTW courses for transfer credit.
