Stevens Institute of Artificial Intelligence (SIAI), in partnership with the Industry Torchbearers in IT and Industry Torchbearers in Healthcare, invite members of the Stevens community to join us for an engaging and informative event on November 6, that explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine.

This event includes a seminar by distinguished alumnus Dr. Aalpen Patel, followed by a Research Poster Session featuring the work of SIAI’s 2024 AIRS Fellowship Recipients.

Seminar Overview:
Artificial Intelligence in Medicine: It is No Longer Optional
The healthcare industry is facing an urgent workforce crisis, with a predicted shortfall of up to 124,000 physicians in the coming decade. In addition to workforce shortages, the persistence of medical errors is further straining the healthcare system. Dr. Aalpen Patel will address how the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is critical to overcoming these challenges by improving physician efficiency, enhancing medical imaging, and supporting population health management.

During the seminar, participants will:
-Understand the healthcare crisis stemming from workforce shortages and medical errors.
-Learn the fundamentals of neural networks and generative AI.
-Discover practical applications of AI in medical imaging, physician workflows, and population health.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Aalpen Patel '89 is a leading physician, engineer, and educator, with expertise in merging technology with healthcare. A Stevens Institute of Technology alumnus with a degree in electrical engineering, Dr. Patel transitioned into medicine and earned his MD from Rutgers University. With advanced training from renowned institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center, he is board-certified in diagnostic radiology, vascular and interventional radiology, and clinical informatics.
