Portfolio Submission

Introduction

We believe in giving prospective students the best opportunities to showcase their talents and skills. For this reason, we strongly encourage applicants to our Music & Technology and Visual Arts & Technology programs to submit a portfolio.

All portfolio materials must be uploaded on your student portal after submitting your application. Direct submissions of electronic media outside of the portal cannot be reviewed. See below for details about the portfolio requirements. For specific questions about the portfolio, please contact [email protected]

Music & Technology Applicants

For Music & Technology applicants, the portfolio must include the following:

  1. Three examples of your creative work that best represent your strengths and skills.

    • You may submit a musical composition, sound design or something else you have created that demonstrates creative technological implementation within the sphere of music and music technology.

    • Please include descriptions of the work you submit and your participation in its creation.

    • While the HASS encourages students to use new technologies at all stages of their creative work, use of AI tools on portfolio projects must be clearly disclosed.

  2. Music & Technology Supplemental Questions (available on your student portal after submitting your application).

For more information and frequently asked questions about the portfolio process, please visit the Music & Technology FAQ page.

Visual Arts & Technology Applicants

For Visual Arts & Technology applicants, the portfolio must include the following:

  1. Five examples of your creative work that best represent your strengths and skills.

    • You may submit drawings, videos and animation, graphic design, photography, or any media.

    • Please include descriptions of the work you submit.

    • While the HASS encourages students to use new technologies at all stages of their creative work, use of AI tools on portfolio projects must be clearly disclosed.

  2. Visual Arts & Technology Supplemental Questions (available on your student portal after submitting your application).

For more information and frequently asked questions about the portfolio process, please visit the Visual Arts & Technology FAQ page.

The Visual Arts portfolio is about showing promise, but we don’t assume students have experience with any particular tool or medium. If you haven’t used computers for making art, feel free to submit digital images of your paintings, drawings, and traditional media. Good documentation is important! For analog media, take the best quality photos you can (borrow a good camera if possible). If you don’t have access to studio lighting, shoot your images outside on a cloudy day for good, even light. Choose your best work! We only want to see work you are really proud of, not everything you’ve made. If that means not showing a certain medium or style, that’s okay. We’d rather see what makes you stand out.
