Hosted by the Stevens School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in partnership with the Hoboken Public Library, this Campus Point Connection features Smaran Dayal, an assistant professor of literature at Stevens, and Ben Baer, an associate professor of comparative literature at Princeton University, as they discuss their book Spider-Mother: The Radical Feminist Writings of Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.
Spider-Mother brings together the visionary works of Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, a pioneering Indian Muslim feminist, through fresh translations of her speculative fiction, essays, and manifestos. The book highlights Hossain's radical imagination and powerful critique of gender oppression, emphasizing her transformative ideas on education, technology, and women's leadership within a colonial context.
