Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series: Pointers Powering Sustainable Change on Campus
Department of Civil, Environmental, and Ocean Engineering
Speaker: Dave Barbier, University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point
ABSTRACT
The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Office of Sustainability is the driving force behind many of the sustainable advances the university has made in the last decade. Many of those efforts have been facilitated or driven by student efforts and desires. We will discuss techniques and practices that have helped empower students to be a driving force for change at an institutional level. In this presentation, we will look at some of the projects and initiatives that students have helped to bring online and the impacts that have had on the day-to-day campus operations. We will also discuss how some of these approaches have led to broader community impacts. Benefits from these projects have included but are not limited to improved educational awareness, institutional financial savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and improved brand marketing. Lastly, I’ll touch on how the skills used and developed in these initiatives have benefitted students in their professional settings after graduation.
