English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE)
The English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) is conducted in –person, on-campus at Stevens. The ECPE is designed to assess your ability to communicate effectively in the graduate academic community.
Students who are granted a Test Score Waiver during the admission process are required to complete the Stevens English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) upon arrival to campus.
Students who submitted test scores during the admissions process that included sub-scores at or above the levels listed below may elect to complete the Stevens English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) upon arrival to campus, with the goal of waiving out of the English Language Communications (ELC) course requirement.
TOEFL: Speaking: 22 Writing 22
IELTS: Speaking: 6.5 Writing 6.5
Completing the Stevens English Language Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) does not guarantee that you will be able to waive out of the English Language Communications (ELC) course requirement.
Students who score less than 4.5 out of 5 on either section of the ECPE will be required to enroll in an English Language Communications (ELC) course in their first term of enrollment.
Students who score at least 4.5 out of 5 on both sections of the ECPE will not be required to enroll in an English Language Communications (ELC) course.
There is a $50 fee to complete the English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE), which will be charged to your student account.
The deadline to complete the English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) is at least one week before the first day of classes.
