Building SUCCESSful Paths
The incoming Class of 2028 joined the Stevens community this September and will be the first to fully participate in SUCCESS, the university’s new core curriculum.
The Class of 2028, which arrived on campus in August, will be the first to experience a reimagined core curriculum that has been designed to help “future-proof” a Stevens education.
The Stevens Undergraduate Core Curriculum: Essential Skills for Success, or SUCCESS, “will ensure our students are among the most comprehensively prepared, educationally resilient and technologically savvy graduates — not only in the nation, but in the world,” says President Nariman Farvardin.
The curriculum includes:
Frontiers of Technology courses that tackle topics like AI and machine learning; data science and analytics; biotechnology; sustainability; and quantum technology. Students select Frontiers courses in three of the five areas, tailoring their education to their interests.
A First-Year Experience course to help students adjust to college and discover important resources. One faculty and one staff member lead each semester-long course. Afterward, the staff member becomes a Student Success Coach, offering ongoing support to students throughout their undergraduate years.
Foundations courses develop students’ core skills in areas like writing, communications, leadership and ethics, computing and entrepreneurship.
“Stevens’ position as a forward-looking tech institution requires that all our students are attuned to the latest research, and that they know not only how to apply these technologies, but also understand their effect on society,” Farvardin says. “As technologies change, as societal problems change, as business and industry change, so will the SUCCESS curriculum. It will continue to evolve to ensure that it — and those who experience it — remain relevant and impactful in an ever-evolving landscape.”
