American Talent Initiative Report: Stevens Institute of Technology a Leader in Opportunity for Lower-Income Students
“High-Flier” designation highlights leadership in student access and success
Hoboken, N.J., April 8, 2024 – As a proud member of the American Talent Initiative (ATI), Stevens Institute of Technology is committed to expanding access and opportunity for students from all backgrounds. The university's dedication to this goal is producing tangible results.
The latest ATI progress report highlights the success of Stevens and its fellow member institutions. Since 2016, ATI colleges and universities have enrolled an additional 18,100 Pell Grant recipients — a testament to their collective efforts to increase socioeconomic diversity on campus.
Backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Aspen Institute and Ithaka S&R, ATI in 2021 asked its 140 members to commit to specific goals for each of their institutions; the report shows the vast majority of members are making progress toward their aspirational, individual Pell enrollment and graduation goals.
At Stevens, this commitment to expanding opportunity is a top institutional priority under the leadership of President Nariman Farvardin. The university not only remains among ATI’s “High-Fliers,” a small group of high-graduation-rate institutions that are national leaders in college access and success for lower-income students, it is also among the top five schools showing high rates of Pell enrollment increase.
Stevens has strategically invested in financial aid, strengthened partnerships and implemented student support programs with the goal of ensuring talented students from low- and moderate-income families can thrive at Stevens.
"Our focus on expanding access and opportunity for all students is a key part of Stevens' identity," said President Farvardin. "We take great pride in the progress we've made, including being recognized as an ATI “High-Flier,” but recognize there is more work to be done. Stevens remains deeply committed to unlocking the full potential of talented students from all backgrounds."
