Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees Elects Founder of Lipper Analytical Services, A. Michael Lipper
World-renowned financial advisor and investor joins the Stevens Board of Trustees as the university continues its steep upward trajectory in undergraduate enrollment and new faculty
(Hoboken, N.J. -- Nov. 22, 2019) – Stevens Institute of Technology President Nariman Farvardin announced today that A. Michael Lipper, whose name has become synonymous with mutual funds and analytics, was elected to the Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. His term as a Board member began Oct. 17, 2019.
Lipper brings 60 years of corporate experience to the Board, providing guidance to many fund-management companies. He is founder and president of Lipper Advisory Services, Inc., an SEC registered investment advisor providing counsel and management of accounts investing in mutual funds that has current assets in excess of $2 billion. He is also the managing member of LSF Partners, LP, a private financial services fund.
“Michael Lipper is truly an icon in the money management world and an internationally-renowned expert on investments and world markets,” said Farvardin. “Stevens is incredibly fortunate to count him as a member of our Board of Trustees, and we look forward to the impact he will make on this university. With his help, and that of the other dedicated members of our Board, Stevens is well-positioned to surpass its ambitious goals.”
In 1973, Lipper founded Lipper Analytical Services, Inc., an investment firm in Summit, N.J. dedicated to the analysis of funds and brokerage firms. In 1998 he sold the operating assets of the firm to Reuters Group, PLC, which transformed the firm into what is now known as Lipper Inc. Lipper, a division of Reuters, provides information on mutual fund performance.
With the explosive growth in mutual funds during the 1980s and '90s, spurred largely by the expansion of direct-contribution retirement plans and later by the bull market, Lipper made a name for himself by opining on mutual-fund issues and providing up-to-date performance numbers that compared fund-industry players. He has been a regular source of comment to the global press and maintains a weekly blog: www.mikelipper.blogspot.com. He is also the author of Money Wise: How to Create, Grow, and Preserve Your Wealth.
Lipper has been active in various industry associations. He is currently chairman of the International Stock Exchange Executives Emeriti, Inc. He also serves as chairman of the Investment Sub-committee and is a member of the Financial Oversight Committee of Atlantic Health Systems. He is also a trustee of California Institute of Technology and serves on Columbia University Medical Center’s Board of Advisors.
After graduating from Columbia College in 1957, Lipper joined the U.S. Marine Corps from the NROTC program. In 1960, he left active duty as a Communications Officer/Combat Cargo Officer to embark on his professional career as a securities analyst.
