Stevens Launches Pre-College For-Credit Program

In addition to the Summer Residential Program, Stevens’ introduction of the For-Credit Program provides high school students with another way to prepare for college

Stevens Institute of Technology has recently announced the addition of the Online For-Credit Program to its suite of Pre-College Programs. Along with the already popular and successful Summer Residential Program and starting Summer 2025, Stevens’ introduction of the Online For-Credit Program will provide high school students with another way to prepare for higher education academics by enrolling in STEM-focused, college-level courses taught through live virtual sessions with Stevens faculty.

“Participants can earn college credits, giving them a head start on their college journey even before graduating high school,” says Jennifer Rodriguez, associate director of the Pre-College Online For-Credit Program. “This program is ideal for students who have a clear career interest and want to begin exploring it early.”

Offerings include courses in biology and biotechnology, calculus, coding, management and marketing. “These courses provide students with valuable exposure to various fields, helping them determine if a particular career path aligns with their interests,” says Rodriguez.

Courses will be delivered through live virtual instruction during the evenings of the first summer session, running from May 19 to July 9, 2025. Each course meets twice a week over seven weeks and will be led by a Stevens faculty member, with support from a teaching assistant. Upon earning a passing grade in the course, students will see the credit reflected on their Stevens transcript to count towards an undergraduate program at Stevens. The credits may also be accepted by other institutions.

“This program gives students a significant advantage over their peers who haven’t experienced college-level coursework. Beyond the academic rigor, college courses have a different structure than high school, meeting less frequently and requiring students to take initiative in managing their workload and preparing for upcoming material,” says Rodriguez.

Not only will students earn college credits, but they’ll gain exposure to career pathways, foster their college readiness and enhance their college application credentials.

The inclusion of the For-Credit Program is a result of the success of the Dare to Dream Grant, which funded 120 students from underrepresented ethnic groups in STEM to take college-level courses.
