‘U.S. News’ Names Stevens Top 25 Most Innovative School, Top 100 National University

Stevens Institute of Technology ranks among the best universities in the United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual list of college rankings. The publication ranks Stevens No. 76 overall among 439 national research universities.

When comparing only private schools, Stevens places second in New Jersey — behind Princeton — No. 10 in the region (Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania) and No. 41 in the nation.

U.S. News, a widely recognized leader in rankings, has been publishing its annual list of best colleges and universities since 1983. The rankings are based on factors such as graduation rates, social mobility and graduate indebtedness.

In addition, Stevens is featured on several standalone U.S. News lists. The university ranked No. 25, up one spot from last year, on the list of “Most Innovative Schools” in the nation — the highest-ranking New Jersey institution on the list — and shot up an astounding 117 places on the “Top Performers in Social Mobility” list. On the list of “Best Value Schools,” Stevens placed No. 63 nationally.

At the program level, Stevens made an impressive showing on three new U.S. News rankings: No. 18 in Management Information Systems, No. 29 in Analytics and No. 40 in Finance. Other programs also rose from last year, including Computer Science, up 12 places to No. 82, and undergraduate business programs, up nine places to No. 135.

Reflecting Stevens’ remarkable transformative progress over the past decade, the university received a record 14,170 applications for the Class of 2027 — a 13% increase from last year’s record-breaking number. The 1,085 students that make up this new class are among the most academically distinguished in Stevens history, with nearly 22% of the class identifying as first-generation college students.

Year over year, the return on investment for a Stevens degree remains among the highest in the nation ranking No. 15 on Payscale’s College ROI Report. In fact, 97.3% of the Class of 2022 secured outcomes within six months of graduation and had a record average starting salary of $84,700.

Last month, Stevens was recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduates in its annual college guide, The Best 389 Colleges: 2024 Edition. Only about 15% of America’s 2,700 four-year colleges are included in the listing. The university was also ranked No. 17 in the nation on The Princeton Review’s “Top 20 Best Career Placement” list.

Stevens was also recently ranked No. 36 in the nation on The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse list of “2024 Best Colleges in the U.S.,” which emphasizes graduation rates and graduate salaries, and received 4.5 out of 5 stars on Money magazine’s ranking of Best Colleges in America.
