Ed Ballo, DSW, LCSW, MBA
Dr. Ballo entered the field of psychotherapy and clinical social work after a 20-year career in business operations. He received his Master’s in Social Work (MSW) in 2016 from NYU, and his Doctorate in Clinical Social Work in 2023 from University of Pennsylvania. Post MSW, he provided psychotherapy in a New York City agency, and then at New Jersey Institute of Technology in their Center for Student Counseling & Psychological Services. Ed joined Stevens Institute of Technology in Fall, 2023 as a part-time Staff Psychotherapist. As a social work practitioner, Dr. Ballo has experience in mental health, crisis intervention and co-occurring substance use disorder settings. Ed is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), served as a member of the board of trustees of The Hyacinth AIDS Foundation for six years, and has served as a Hospice volunteer for the MJHS Institute for Innovation and Palliative Care. Dr. Ballo is also a social work educator, having taught MSW classes at Daemen College and UPenn. Ed’s doctoral research was an interpretative phenomenological analysis exploring the perspectives of parentified 18–24-year-old emerging adults on their experiences growing up.
