Mental Health Resources
Whether you are a student, or a member of the faculty or staff - we all struggle from time to time. It helps to know where to turn for help.
Mental Health Resources for Students
All registered Stevens students who reside in NJ and NY are eligible for services with the Offices of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Students can book appointments with a CAPS counselor by phone, online, or by visiting their offices on the 2nd Floor of the Student Wellness Center. Students also have 24-7 access to a CAPS crisis counselor. During regular business hours, students can meet with a crisis counselor in-person by dropping by the CAPS offices. After hours, students can reach a live crisis counselor by calling 201.216.5177 and selecting option "2'.
Stevens students are also eligible to receive free and unlimited teletherapy from Uwill, courtesy of a generous grant from the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education. These free services are guaranteed through April 1, 2026. Learn more by visiting our FAQ page, or get started today by visiting app.uwill.com and registering for an account using a Stevens email address.
Additionally, any member of the Stevens community who is concerned about the mental health of a student can submit a CARE referral. These referrals reach a group of staff (The CARE Team) at Stevens who will make efforts to engage with the student of concern and connect them with proper support. Please note that the CARE Team is not a 24-7 resource, and any concerns that require an urgent or immediate response should be directed towards emergency personnel such as campus police.
Mental Health Resources for Faculty and Staff
All eligible Stevens employees, dependents, and/or significant others have access to a no-cost Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by New York Life. This EAP provides confidential and professional assistance on a wide range of personal matters, such as:
Confidential Emotional Support
Work and Lifestyle Support
Legal Guidance
Financial Resources
Grief and loss
Digital Support
The program provides unlimited telephonic counselors and advice, referrals for up to three face-to-face sessions with a nearby counselor, child, and elder care referral services, legal resources and referral services, and financial counseling resources. Call 800-344-9752, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, or visit www.guidanceresources.com.
The Red Folder
Faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Red Folder, which is the University's Mental Health Response Protocol. The Red Folder uses the See Something, Say Something, Do Something model and encouraged faculty and staff to approach a student they believe may be struggling and then connect them with appropriate support resources.
