Theater at Stevens
Stevens Dramatic Society was founded in 1910 by student theater lovers. As at that time the school was men-only, women were cast from the surrounding area. The Society distinguished itself early on for pioneering advances in technical theater, including sound and lighting techniques for use on Broadway; the sound system for the first 3D movie was also developed here. Today, SDS is a vibrant organization offering two major productions per year: a play and a musical.
DeBaun PAC serves as a venue for campus arts and culture events, as well as producing several in-house theater projects each year. Summer seasons of acting workshops and modern small-cast plays launched in 2015, while the Shakespeare Project series will celebrate its 12th year with the genre-defying party that is Henry IV. DeBaun PAC also teams with the theater honor society Theta Alpha Phi (TAP) in producing various musical revues and projects. DeBaun PAC productions include alumni as well as current students, helping to forge broader bonds across the Stevens theater family. Finally, when possible within the busy school calendar, DeBaun PAC presents various professional performing groups for the enrichment of campus cultural life.
