Stevens Launches Master of Engineering in Engineering Management Collaboration with Zijing Education
Through our partnership with Tsinghua Holdings Zijing (Beijing) Education Group (Zijing Education), Stevens Institute of Technology offers students in China an opportunity to earn a Master of Engineering in Engineering Management (M.Eng.) through study in China and the United States. Offering conditional first-year admission to undergraduate students, Stevens will provide operational services and student recruitment for this unique and prestigious collaboration.
The Program Structure
The program allows students to earn a master’s degree in two years by completing one year of study in China and the second in the United States. During the first year, undergraduate junior or senior year students receive conditional admission to the master’s program at Stevens if they complete/pass the Intensive English program, fulfill the undergraduate overall GPA requirement, and the English proficiency requirement (see https://sit-plus.ezijing.com/ for additional acceptable proof of English proficiency). With a curriculum developed in collaboration with Stevens, first-year courses are taught in China by Zijing Education faculty.
After graduating college and meeting entrance requirements, Stevens will offer students unconditional admission to complete the second and final year of their master’s program in the United States. This degree can be certified as a master’s degree by the Chinese (Ministry of Education) Service Center for Scholarly Exchange.
This program adopts bilingual and small-sized class teaching styles to help students adapt to the American teaching mode in advance.
Degree and Curriculum
The Master of Engineering in Engineering Management (M.Eng.) degree program provides students with a strong understanding of the technology involved in engineering projects and the management process. The program equips engineers, technical managers, business operations professionals, and others with the skills, tools, and methodologies needed to effectively manage complexity across industries. Students can expect a program with a strong engineering core with training in quality management, project management, production and technology management, accounting, cost analysis, managerial economics, engineering design, and systems integration. Our emphasis on real-world applications and hands-on learning prepares graduates to keep an organization running efficiently, cost-effectively, and importantly, ahead of its competitors.
Engineering Management Career Options
Upon completion of the M.Eng. degree, students advance to professional positions of increasing responsibility across a broad range of industries such as business, finance, healthcare, software, and technology. Examples of highly in-demand career options may include data analyst, project manager, operational research analyst, application engineer, risk manager, and research and development.
Faculty
Dr. Kathryn Abel is the Director of the Undergraduate Engineering Management (EM) and the Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Programs at the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Technology Management and Applied Psychology. She has taught courses in Total Quality Management, Engineering Economics, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurial Analysis of Engineering Design, Statistics for Engineering Managers, Management of Engineering and Technology, and Senior Design. Her research areas include knowledge engineering, as well as knowledge and information management. She is a member of the Board of Advisors at West Point for the Department of Systems Engineering. She is also a member of several professional societies including ASEE, ASEM, ASME, and EMH
Dr. Onur Asan completed his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in human factors and human-computer interaction. Dr. Asan's research focuses on the application of theory, methods, and design from the discipline of human factors engineering and human-computer interaction to improve socio-technical change in health care. Dr. Asan also works on the development and testing of user/patient-centered health technologies to improve the user experience of care.
Dr. Asan’s work has been funded by federal and private institutions including National Health Institute (NIH), Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ), Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)
Dr. Philip Odonkor is an assistant professor in the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Dr. Odonkor earned his doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), where his research focused on energy optimization in net-zero energy building clusters. He followed this with a doctoral research internship with Hitachi Big Data Labs, where his research focused on optimizing industrial applications using deep reinforcement learning. His research interests lie in developing and utilizing data-driven methodologies to enable efficient and sustainable energy use within built environments, with the goal of enabling smart cities. Dr. Odonkor is a 2019 SUNY Chancellor's Award recipient. His research has been featured by the Journal of Mechanical Design and earned him the Dean's Graduate Achievement Award in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Carlo Lipizzi is a professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology teaching, researching, and consulting on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.
He has a Ph.D. in System Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, an Executive Management Degree from IMD, Lousanne, CH, and a master’s in mathematics from the University of Rome, Italy.
As director of the Center for Complex Systems and Enterprises, his research focus is on Machine Learning, Data Science, and Natural Language Processing.
For the last 3.5 years, he taught ~500 data science students, managed projects for a total of about $6M, and directed the Engineering Management and Systems Analytics Graduate programs at Stevens.

Interview
After evaluating the submitted materials, Zijing Education will provide feedback through emails for those who successfully pass the evaluation to schedule interviews.
Admission Offers and Enrollment
Applicants who finally pass the interview will receive a conditional admission letter for the program. Once a student makes full payment to the program, they will be enrolled in the program and will start to take courses in their admitted semester
