Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which offers valuable assistance to eligible students. We understand that balancing academics and financial responsibilities can be difficult, and we are proud to help ensure our students have access to the resources they need to thrive.
At Stevens, we are committed to supporting our students. We are excited to promote theNew Jersey’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, provides food assistance to families with low incomes to help them buy groceries through a benefits card accepted in most food retail stores and some farmers markets. Eligibility is set by several factors, such as income and resources. You can use your SNAP benefits to stretch your food budget and buy nutritious foods that can keep you and your family healthy.
These guidelines below will help you determine eligibility requirements. If you’re unsure, we still encourage you to apply. After applying, students must complete the New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Student Eligibility Verification form and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid.
NJ SNAP Student Eligibility: Who Qualifies?
Students between the ages of 18 and 49 years old.
Students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.
Students enrolled at least half-time in a college, university, or technical school.
Students who do not utilize their meal plan to pay for the majority of their meals.
In addition to the basic requirements, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:
Be employed for at least 20 hours per week and paid for that work.
Participate in a federal or state work-study program.
Be enrolled in an approved Career and Technical Education program at a New Jersey community college.
Be responsible for the care of a young child or dependent under the age of 6.
Be a single parent, enrolled full-time, and responsible for a dependent under 12 years old.
Be unable to work due to a physical or mental disability.
Be receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Work First New Jersey (WFNJ).
After submitting your SNAP application, you will need to complete the SNAP Verification Form and obtain supporting documents to confirm your student SNAP eligibility.
Follow these steps:
Complete section 1 of the SNAP Verification Form with required information.
Submit the form to the Office of Financial Aid for review. Once completed, the form will be returned to the student.
Obtain supporting documentation if applicable: You may need to download a copy of your Student Aid Report on studentaid.gov or print a copy of your financial aid disclosure from your myStevens to confirm Federal Work Study eligibility.
Submit to SNAP: After receiving the SNAP Verification Form from the Office of Financial Aid and downloading applicable supporting documents, send it to your state’s SNAP office or the SNAP benefits processing center for final approval.
