Mental Health First Aid LogoMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a globally recognized, evidence-based training program developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. MHFA is an 8-hour skills-based training that focuses on how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges. MHFA certification is valid for three years. Stevens faculty, staff and students who complete MHFA with our team of presenters become a part of the Duck Support Network. QPR LogoQPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer - the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Developed by the QPR Institute, this popular 60-90 minute training has a strong evidence-base. The content of the QPR training is purposefully focused on the topic of suicide and suicide prevention. Participants learn about suicide warnings signs, tips for how to ask someone if they are considering suicide, and options for referral at Stevens and beyond. Warning Signs is a 45-60 minute training developed by Counseling and Psychological Services at Stevens. This training explores common signs and symptoms of distress among students in higher education with a particular eye towards trends at Stevens. The training also explores how to respond to students in distress in an empathic, non-judgmental way that ultimately helps connect them to appropriate resources. Fostering Student Mental Health is a 30-minute online training developed by United Educators and customized by Stevens. This interactive course examines the impact of mental health issues on campus, from common types to the best ways for faculty to recognize when something is wrong and then put students in touch with those who can help.
