Louis J. Mayer, Ed.D.
Louis J. Mayer, Ed.D., joined Stevens as Chief Financial Officer, Vice President for Finance and Treasurer in March 2015. Previously, Dr. Mayer had served as Vice President for Financial Affairs & Treasurer at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
As the Vice President for Financial Affairs & Treasurer at Saint Joseph’s University, he provided leadership and support to all financial operations including financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis; debt management; financial reporting; insurance risk management; investment management; tax reporting; and treasury management . During his time at Saint Joseph’s University, Dr. Mayer Co-Chaired the University’s Planning & Budgeting Committee with the Provost, and provided executive level financial analysis to support a $250M multi-year capital project program, including the acquisition and renovation of an adjacent K-12 prep school to significantly expand the University’s campus. He also coordinated and directed the credit assessment process for the University’s first ever public credit ratings with S&P and Fitch. In addition, he successfully led a transition to an outsourced endowment model for the University’s $210M endowment.
Prior to his role at Saint Joseph’s University Dr. Mayer held leadership roles at The William Penn Foundation and The University of the Arts, both located in Philadelphia Region. Throughout his career, he has served as the primary liaison to multiple Board committees – including Audit & Risk, Finance, and Investment. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Immaculata University where he teaches a course on Higher Education Finance & Strategic Planning.
Dr. Mayer holds a B.S., in accounting from Saint Joseph’s University, an MBA in Executive Management from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.
