Admission Process

Admission to Stevens through iSTEM requires student participation in an interview, an invitation-only event held in early December. This evaluation is a critical component of your application to Stevens for undergraduate admission. Only students who have submitted a self-nomination form or have been nominated by their high school teacher or counselor will be considered for admission to iSTEM.

Step 1: Nomination

To be eligible to apply for iSTEM, a nomination must be submitted. Students may self-nominate or a high school counselor or teacher may nominate qualified students. Seniors in high school who are considering specific fields (computer science, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, computer engineering and software engineering) are ideal candidates for the program.

Step 2: Student Notification

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will contact all students nominated by their counselors or teachers and let them know they have been recommended for this special opportunity. They will be informed of the requirements for participation in the required iSTEM interview.

Step 3: Application and Portfolio Submission

Students nominated for the iSTEM program MUST submit an application for undergraduate admission to Stevens to be eligible for the interview.

Your portfolio must be submitted through your Stevens online portal. Portfolios can include:

  • A resume detailing your education and experience

  • A list of products, patents, apps, research, etc. that you have created or worked on

  • Examples of completed work, such as:

    • Code for a web portal and/or app that solves a real problem

    • Description of an innovative project where you might attempt to file a patent

    • Description of a business start-up (even if it failed)

The portfolio should be uploaded as a document and may include:

  • Web-links or App Store links to products

  • GitHub pages for source code

  • YouTube video links of product demos if hardware is involved

Official high school transcripts (with senior year coursework) must be sent by your counselor and uploaded through the admissions portal.

Official teacher and counselor letters of recommendation are not initially required to be considered for the iSTEM interview but will be required later to be considered for admission to Stevens.

Step 4: Invitation to Interview

Stevens will review portfolios of nominated students and invite selected candidates to a required interview. More information about the event will be provided at this time, including the day's agenda and any necessary preparations.

Step 5: iSTEM Interview

Invited students will participate in an interview hosted by a representative of the program.

Step 6: Notifications

Students will receive notification of the status of their candidacy to the iSTEM program in mid-December. Students admitted to the iSTEM program will be considered for federal, state and institutional aid, provided they apply for financial aid and meet all established deadlines. Any acceptable candidates who did not apply Early Decision I will be provided with a "Likely Accept." This means they have been accepted to the program but have not yet received their official acceptance to Stevens.
