Leveraging 150 Years of Technological Innovation and Scientific Discovery
At the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science, we pioneer promising solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems – from deepening our understanding of the universe, to speeding up processes that improve access to education and healthcare, to creating new and sustainable forms of energy. Our flagship school, located upon the Hudson River right across from New York City, provides a complete STEM experience for our undergraduate and graduate students across nine departments. Our dynamic curricula blend fundamental knowledge and training with practical application through numerous hands-on experiential learning opportunities. This multidisciplinary, design-based approach fosters entrepreneurial thinking, a spirit of teamwork and problem-solving skills — and it propels our graduates on to success in careers and in life.

Stevens Pioneers Quantum Gravity
One of the holy grails of physics has long been to link gravity with quantum mechanics, but quantum gravity had remained squarely in the realm of the theoretical — until now. Stevens theoretical physicist Igor Pikovski's team has devised a way to do the impossible: detect gravitons, thought to be the quantum building blocks of gravity, with near-future quantum sensing technology. This breakthrough has overturned conventional wisdom in the field of physics and opened the door for the first experimental explorations of quantum gravity.
