No Show & Late Arrival Policy
Effective September 1, 2023
The Stevens Career Center strives to provide an exceptional experience for every student. The Stevens Career Center's No Show and Late Arrival Policy is designed to reduce the number of students who do not show up or arrive late for career coaching appointments, career workshops and employer events.
Career Coaching Appointments
If a student schedules an in-person or virtual career coaching appointment and the appointment is approved by the Career Center, the student is expected to arrive on time or cancel the appointment in Handshake at least 4 hours before the appointment start time. The appointment MUST be cancelled on Handshake. Please do not send an email to the career center or a career coach. If a student does not check-in for a career coaching appointment or the student arrives more than 10 minutes after the appointment start time, the student will be marked as a “NO SHOW”.
Career Workshops and Employer Events
If a student registers (signs-up) to attend an in-person or virtual career center workshop or employer event, the student must check-in and arrive on time or cancel registration in Handshake at least 24 hours in advance. The event registration MUST be cancelled on Handshake. Please do not send an email to the career center or a career coach. If a student does not check-in for a career center workshop or employer event or the student arrives more than 10 minutes after the published start time, the student will not be permitted to enter the event and the student will be marked as a “NO SHOW”.
Penalty for No Shows and Late Arrivals
Blocked Handshake Account
The career center will BLOCK the Handshake account for any student who receives 5 NO SHOWS during a semester for any combination of career coaching appointments, career workshops, or employer events. The student's Handshake account will remain blocked for the entire semester.
When a Handshake account is blocked, the student cannot apply to jobs on Handshake, register to attend events, or schedule appointments to meet with a career coach.
Regaining Access To Handshake
The student's Handshake account will remain blocked for the entire semester and will be reactivated on the first day of classes in the next semester.
Permanently Losing Access to Handshake
If a student’s Handshake account is blocked two times for not adhering to the No Show and Late Arrival Policy, the student will permanently lose access to Handshake for the remainder of their time at Stevens.
